Hey guys was wondering if anyone can help me, I was changing the bulbs in my mother-in-laws kitchen and saw that inside one of the 'pots' was black as it had been burning. What could the possible cause of this be, what sort of tests can I do to establish where/what the problem is??

Many thanks guys.

Could be a loose conection and causing it to arc and burn check all connections I take it you are not qualified as this is a basic fault if you are not sure call a qualified spark and remember safe isolation is a must

Thanks very much, no not qualified but am doing a home study course and you do not get the sort of experience you need really. Again thank you.

It could simply be heat from the lamp, if you have a max rating lamp installed this often causes brown scorch marks, not necessarily a fault with the wiring.. Not ruling it out though.

But the others are the same rating bulbs and they are fine. So I am guessing (an educated one!) that there is a fault!?

Yep quite possible that it is, if you have any doubts and suspect dodgy wiring then call an electrician, this wouldn't cost much at all to be checked over and terminations re-done properly.

BULBS, BULBS!!!

tulips, and daffodil's grow from BULBS!!!! An electrician would fit an incandescent filament LAMP!!!

Sorry to shout, just a real pet hate of mine. Even my 5 year old calls them lamps. sad eh??

Lamp is what you do to that noisey drunken git in the bar on a saturday night

By the same token, oil, gas, and genies go in lamps.
A light bulb is just that. It's only fairly recently the majority have stopped being bulb shaped, and you ain't gonna change people now. Doesn't matter to me as long as I know what people are talking about.
