I am having a terraced house (circa 1900 build) renovated. Builder has told me that he has found lead cabling after removing door frame. Is lead cabling legal and safe? I will need an electrical certificate as I am going to rent the house out. My main priority is safety.

you will generally find that the insulation has perished where it is exposed to the air. however, a good idea would be to have a EICR done. this will tell if the cabling requires replacing.

Its quite possible old and dis-used but as others have said i would have an EICR to conform this and from a landlord point of view i believe Reg' are changing and been tightened up and if i remember rightly that shortly if not already you will be required to have RCD protection on the electrics, up to press if the installation was say under 16th edition it could be deemed as compliant.

Thanks guys, I have an electrician coming tomorrow so presumably he would do this EICR and advise on the regs for landlords (I only have this one house so am not well up on all landlord requirements).
