Discuss LED Batten Lights to Mains Socket? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hello,

I’m boarding out my loft for storage and I’d like some decent lighting up there rather than loft lights I’m currently using.

I purchased some LED batten lights that my cousin, who is a qualified electrician, said he will come and wire in. He’s good at what he does, he’s sadly just lazy and requires asking a hundred times.

I have the lights and I’d like to use them so I don’t have to work with loft lights. The lights I have are found here: 3FT 4FT 6FT LED Strip Lights Batten Tube Light Shop Garage Ceiling Lamp Dimmable | eBay - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225393018096?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Glsa5u8aTF2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=3PCSz30jSr2&var=524379120192&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

They come with a 3-pin T5 connector on the end. My loft is quite large and I have four 120mm battens at 54w and a single 900mm batten at 43w connected together.

My question is, can these be plugged into a mains socket like a desk lamp? And if so, how do I do it? I’m fairly confident with light electrical work so I’m able to wire this to a plug if that’s all it requires. If not, what do I need so I can use these lights from a socket?

Thank you for reading.

They are mains fed 240v
They are also cheap Chinese fittings and you wont get spare parts like long leads.
So only way to get it mains fed is with a JB or crimps or equivalent.

So if I wire the 3 pin connector to a junction box, then run a length of 1.5mm twin and Earth cable down to a 13amp plug, this will work?

Many thanks.

I realise they are only cheap Chinese lights, but they have that three brightness setting function. This one was the brightest, but I think I’ll be using the middle brightness to avoid having to wear sunglasses up here. 😎

Yeah the ebayer seller looked a bit ropey, based on their feedback. Hopefully the lights will last OK.
