LED Downlight Removal

Hi all,

I have 15 downlights in the kitchen but need to remove one due to getting rid of an aga and needing to install a new cooker and extractor hood - the hood is going where one of the downlights is located.

I've replaced plenty of these over the years, but wanted to check the best way of co9mpletely removing it.

Is it simply a case of disconnecting the light, and using a terminal block to isolate the wiring for that one light?

Or am I better off removing the light from the transformer but leaving the transformer connected in the ceiling void?

Remove the spolight, transformer and joint the cables in a suitable enclosure with maintenance free connections.

Neither !
Generally questions like this go unanswered, nobody here knows the state of your wiring or how the lights have been wired. Wise advise would be to call out a local electrician to make sure that the wires are made safe and properly encloused.

Wago box & 2port wago connectors, ooh and a cable tie so its "maintenence free"

Actually just found a 5amp junction box in the garage. Disconnected the light and transformer and connected the wires back up in the junction box. Tested everything and it’s working fine. Good to go??

No but I will put them all on now and leave them on for an hour if that’s the beat thing to do?

I was only joking... no need to wait for the hour... electrical faults can catch fire at any time !

Ok - the connections in the junction box are all solid and so hoping it’s sorted.

Thanks. So essentially I need to get something with maintenance free terminals as opposed to screw terminals?

The wagobox looks like it will only take two connectors but the cables are earthed and so will need three connectors inside the box. Does anyone know if they will take 3 connectors inside?

Great. Looks like screw fix only sell the terminals in packs of 50. I’ll see if the local electrical merchant sells them in smaller quantities as only need a couple.

those round brown screw terminal JBs have been giving good service for almost 100 years. just some jumped up suit at IET not long out of nappies thinks they're not fit for purpose. bet same jumped up suit called his dad an old fart for using a hand saw, and would have a mental breakdown if he saw an electrician's knife on site.

Too true Tel. I wonder how many are lurking around the U.K. under floorboards and in lofts?
