Hi all, I have a couple of questions I'm hoping you can help with.

I have put a solar panel on my kids play house which charges a 12v battery. I have so far wired 3 lights and everything works great. I wanted to add an LED strip light in the understanding that they only require 12v. I bought this from screwfix... https://www.screwfix.com/p/calex-5m-led-rgb-cct-strip-light-24w-1200lm/211py

I then cut the cable between the 3 pin plug (which I think steps the current down to 12v) and the RGB controller/driver. I then connected the cable to the battery and instantly smelled burning. The controller had blown.

Assuming I had got the positive and the negative the wrong way round (and maybe that was the cause) I attempted to buy a replacement controller but the one that arrived has only 4 pins whereas the calex one has 6. I cannot find a 6 pin controller anywhere.

So 2 questions... What did I do wrong that caused the controller to burn out and does anyone know where I can find a replacement controller.

Any help greatly appreciated!

TL;DR
How did I burn out the controller and how can I replace / not burn another one?
