Discuss Light Switch Wiring. in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

tut tut tut...!!!!

does your mate also take his gas boiler apart???

would be easy to bite bullet , pay call out fee for a sparky and stop tinkering!!

Yes well now , I think you need to take a few simple steps to sort this out.
1: find yellow pages or local rag,
2:Find electricains page
3: make a phone call

tell your friend? to get a spark in before you do or he does himself an injury. electrics and people without the proper respect it deserves don not go together. not sure these were the replies you were after but at the end of the day no one will have scorch marks or be lying on the floor after having a belt off the system

even better...! pop along to wickes and get the electrical specialist to help you out!! :)

on a more positive note!

if you have removed all wiring from switches and now are stuck as to which ones are which you need to look at what cables you have free in the switch outlets..

and report back !!

This isnt the first time ive had to say this....

If you do not wish to help then dont reply.

This forum WILL NOT end up like the others.

I know everyone on here is saying the same thing but you really do need to get someone in. A light switch seems like a simple thing but there is still a dangerous ammount of electricity behind one and needs the same respect.

You need some way of testing which wire is live, switched live, neutral, strappers etc etc. This cannot be accurately done visually. A wire that is usually a neutral colour (Black, Blue) may possible have been used as a switched live and not indicated.

A decent sparky may only charge a call out and 30 minutes fee, depending on your location this could be £30-40 which is far safer than connecting the wrong wires and burning out something which isn't as accessable as the switch.

I cannot see your layout diagram so can't even give any advice but good luck getting it sorted.

When dealing with switches the chances are they are all live or switched live wires
You would need to give a description of what wires are at at the switches for any help

Even with that help.it may be beyond what you are capable

See what is then suggested and if you arer then confident of trying to rectify,by all means, have a safe go at it
If however you are confused,do not try guessing what should be done, as a circuit that works can work but in a dangerous way
The worst people to do electrics are the ones who think they know what they are doing ,but do in fact know little
The better way is to ask as you have done, but with more information

If the wires are muddled up mate you will need to know how to do a continuity test. The cheapest piece of equipment for this will cost you more than a Good sparky. Its going to be impossible to talk you through it in words. Your diagram is worthless as it tells me you have two lights with two way switching. Is it a thre plate system, spider, live to switch, Thehelp I say to you is this pay for a visit rather than written advice.

yes, but i have a feeling you may have more of an idea of how to use it !

I deserved that reply te he, should of put "decent continuity tester ".
