I want to wire the "typical" up/down lights half way up the front of a house to light it up in several places. The house is going to be fully K Rendered after wiring it.

1. Can I run the wires across the walls down the front of the house as it is going to be rendered and these cables wont be seen afterwards? Is that allowed in regulation? If it is in regulation do I follow the same as we do for sockets inside the house (ie: no diagonals) straight lines up/down/left/right of light fitting and cable within 150mm of edge of walls?

2. Can I do it in 1.5mm Twin and Earth like all other lighting? I have read that Twin and Earth outside is a no no but since K Rend will go over the top immediately after will I be allowed to use it in this case?

If the answer is no then please suggest what cable I can use along the walls to go under render.

Can you not use trunking/conduit to put the wires in and render over it? Then if anything goes wrong in the future the cable can be replaced...

Twin and earth does not like UV light much, so direct sunlight can prematurely age it.

Depending on the make up of the render, it may also not like that particularly much. And despite it apparently being waterproof, it can suffer when exposed to damp (in walls) for long periods of time.

Depending on the thickness of the render, I may be inclined to use something like Hi Tuff (NYY-J cable) or install the cabling after the rendering.

Think I would tend to wire the lights from the inside.

Edit; the only reason why I say that, is my son had some similar stuff used on his extension, and its not applied particularly thick, so unless your chasing everything in, it might affect the final finish.

I would ask their technical about that aspect.

Im looking for the easy option. Going from inside is such a faf because we have an extension and hard cable routes. 1.5 Twin and earth is not to bulky either so putting it along the walls will mean it is buried deep in the render. Cabling after the render on top is unsightly and will spoil the whole appearance of the property as well.

Another question.... Soffit lights are going to be difficult to get a switch to the front door as plastering upstairs is all complete. I believe in the regs we have to have a switch. Can I have a time switch in the roof that way i can just wire straight off upstairs lights and keep all the wiring in that one area in the roof.

I know the application of the stuff, is a bit of a faff also. So before you start running cables etc all over the walls to be rendered, I'd speak to their technical, and the plasterer who's putting the stuff on.

I just rang K Rend Technical. Advised K Rent would be applied on to red brick with a total depth of around 20mm so cables would be buried in it. They have never had my question before and were clueless about whether it will interfere with the cable. They said it is a silicone product and doesn't re-act with anything from what they know.

I understand what your saying (or the technical), but putting cables and capping in that 20mm, will reduced your finish depth by about 10mmish. How will that be effected, in response to the elements? Doubt whether the product would affect plastic capping, as the beading is plastic.

What does your plasterer say?

Capping.... That's the word I was looking for in my post #3. I was near enough... :)

Use a Qinetic switch:
Quinetic 1 Gang Wireless Switch - White - https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/QUE11W.html
and receiver:
Quinetic 6 Amp Wireless Switch Receiver - https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/QUR303.html

Rendering contains cement, is this OK for pvc cables?
