If a lighting circuit was tripping out the RCD evan though the circuit is not on the RCD side of the DB, Check for a shared neutral. The RCD will detect the imbalace.
 
Definately sounds like you have a nuetral adrift somewhere, I presume the dis board is a split load db, just make sure all the nuetrals on the rcd protected circuits are seperated from all of those on the main switch side. and that they are all in the correct nuetral bars.
