I am using a Masterplug RCD adaptor in my shed, but when there is an electrical fault on equipment I am using in my shed connected to the Masterplug RCD it trips the main consumer unit RCD in my house. Any help please

Being an electrician you should know the effects of having 2 RCD's in series.

This is a misconception that many many people have, that the one closest to the load will trip first but 95% of the time the one further does....... and they don't understand why.

So I think you need to fix the fault in the shed/equipment you are using!

when i first moved in here, no RCD whatever. 1950's CU with HRC fuses. needing an outside socket, i fitted a twin RCD IP65 jobby. some time later, CU upgraded to 17th. so now have had 2 RCDs in series for last 4 years. had 1 trip on the CU RCD in all that time due to an outside fault. inconvenience perhaps, but am i bothered? am i bollox.

I changed my cu and have a rcd as main switch. Is that wrong?
Yes I would avoid RCD protection at all costs in my home, providing the zs readings at the furthest point of utilisation are within parameters to ensure the breakers will trip within the guidelines itemised in BS7671 I would not consider RCD protection, even the lawnmower would connect to a normal socket with MCB protection, it would have a RCD plug top on the lead though chuckle.

i usually find that a halogen or tungsten bulb popping takes the MCB out rather than the RCD.
