if u mean the big chunky red probe its used so u onli need 1 hand when testin there is a button on the probe which works as the test button so u dont hav 2 struggle tryin 2 hold all the normal probes and press the test button on the meter

First I tought it had
to be something with direct current messureing,
I notice while testing that it test automatic when it detect voltage ,

haha like it, looks a bit clumsy.
Is it typically used for the insulation testing?

Yes only really for IR testing as the rest of the tests start automatically when leads are connected.

Never used it myself yet apart from 1 time when i used the light on it.
