Im a HVAC tech, and wondered about a certain type of connnection of power for a/c unit. On very old houses with only the glass enclosed meter head outside, then it enters into the home somewhere maybe. There has been cases where the installer will tap onto the load side of that meter and come down within 3-4 feet of this meter with a beaker type, or even fuse type disconnect. After the disconnect, and then into the a/c. What is the opinion of this type of installation, and if it is a violation, can someone state the code where it says this?

I think this needs to be flagged as a USA post? For some reason I can't check the poster's location.
