So I am almost finished an extension and went over to complete a part of the job to find the client just couldn’t possibly wait and has fitted some off the light fittings. I am a bit p***ed as they pffered to help by fitting the faceplates and i explained it will be quicker for me to do it and i would need to go round and check them over for testing if he done them.
not too sure what to do now. Tempted to moan at them for doing it but cant see that really being that useful especially coming up to payment time.
they have also replaced socket faceplates after i fitted what they first bought.

I know that once i leave a customer is free to do whatever they want but i wish they had just waited for my work to be signed off by me before doing what they wanted.

I think we have all being there. It's important to keep the atmosphere in a work environment positive but it must never get to the point where a customer takes liberties. That's one you will learn from

If you're registered with a scheme, your company is effectively operating under an externally administered quality-assurance programme that imposes certain procedural requirements for ensuring compliance. Because the customer is neither part of your company nor a subcontractor, they cannot take on delegated responsibility for compliance, even if they are competent and the work they have done is sound. Therefore, it is no slight against them, to want to go round and check everything.

Had this afew times where home owners have modified the wiring to add additional points or move cables to different positions etc
Or they put up the ceiling lights because they want to see how they look.

Never particularly bothered me so long as I could check what they did before handing over the Eic.
Have even had home owners offer to help me with 1st fix and 2nd fix which is always quite fun.

I take my hat off to you. I personally would be very uncomfortable with customers taking that kind of inititive without consulting with me first. I, m happy to let a capable homeowner get involved in helping providing its done on a prearranged basis.

i have had a lot of customers think they can do it them selfs and cock it up ,has they knees tremble stood on the ladders.

what we need is a timer fitted covertly to interrupt the supply to essential circuits (or all of them). so when customer won't pay you what he owes, all or part of his leccy switches off, with a code to reset, code supplied only after cleared funds in your bank. ADT do it with their alarms.

That’s really Annoying but I wouldn’t make a big thing out of it, not until you have been paid any how, just finish your work get your money and think twice before you work for them in the future

look on the bright side, if they call you with any problems going forward, you know what to say....sorry mate it was ok until you touched it, chargeable I’m afraid!
