hi folks,
i've just had a look at the electrical installation in my new house and it seems to me that there is no connection to earth.
i've taken the cover off the consumer unit and i can see an earth cable bonded to gas and water supplies and an incoming line and neutral from the supply meter but no other earth connections other than the individual circuits. is this correct or a dangerous mistake?

pictures attached of the consumer unit and supply fuse/meter. more can be provided if required.
help!

Correct.
There is no main earth from the DNO service.
Doesnt mean the installation is completely unearthed , but needs further investigation , preferably with an earth loop tester.

thanks for the quick reply. just asked my neighbour (an electrical contractor) to have a look and he's measured a Ze of 11.27 ohms...

does anyone else see a partial remains of an earth just below the fuse block on pic 1 ? earth fault loop test will indicate if there is an earth path.

Where's that CPC below the CU coming from?? So what did your electrician neighbour have to say about your installation then?? More's the point what earthing system does he have in his house??

that CPC goes to the water pipe and then on to the gas pipe.
he didnt have time to say much else but he promised to come back tonight after work.

ask your neighbour to also quote you for a new consumer unit as well.

hi on the subject. We have covering a lot of terraced houses in Liverpool of late and some have electrodes and some do not. no distrumbutr earth provided at cutout.

the house i tested yesterday is picking up the fault path through the gas pipes. im not happy with this and making our own electrode is impossible on this house. im not sure who to contact regarding the matter?

the terminal bar on the cut out is not linked, did a ze there, so will the DNO come out and create a N - E link for us without charge?

im currently doing a EICR for the job and repairing as i go along to suite regs....
