Hi Just been approached by a customer regarding a property he has which he wants to change to multiple occupancy

Its a 3 bed house, Ground floor and first floor with reception, Would this require a fire alarm?

Many thanks

Check with the local council what they define as "multiple occupancy" - when the category was created a few years back local authorities were given discretion to decide what counted as MO, though I don't think a three bedroom would qualify. If the customer is planning to rent it out as three rooms with shared facilities he probably doesn't need anything specific, though as a minimum I'd have though smoke alarms uptairs and down, with a heat alarm in the kitchen. Could go the whole hog and have linked smokies in every room.

Trouble with HMO's every council seem to have their own requirements if you have to meet the sound levels to wake sleeping occupants then every bedroom will have to have a detector as sound doesn't travel too well through fire doors. You would need to check with the local council to get a definitive answer to your question
