My old Bosch 36 volt drill, is on it’s last legs. Intermittent stopping and starting when the trigger is pulled and a strange smell from the motor when on prolonged use.
Any recommendations?

I'm guessing SDS+ at 36v ?
If so the Milwaukee CHPX and CHX are worth a look, and the DeWalt 54v gets a good write up.
Or if batteries are good stay with Bosch ?

You never know. Blow the dust out with an air gun, new brushes, a good grease and it may live again.

and maybe a comm. clean with some fine emery paper.

Hitachi or Makita with me.or if you want low cost, B&Q are doing the Erbauer range.

Cheers Andy78, I will check it out.
I did try replacement bushes once, but it works worse than with my old bushes in. The drill only worked when I shook it violently whilst pressing the trigger and I seen a few sparks that I had never seen before. I put my old bushes back in and have just lived with it.
Are you supposed to shape the ends of the bushes or something as I just put them in with their flat ends?

with brushes, i just file the sharp edges if the face is curved.otherwise, just fit and run on no load for a few mins. sparks would indicate poor contact with the comm. or a poor connection somewhere. the push fit spade connectors used on some machines might be slack.

As @telectrix , Clean the commy up. Drill motors and spares are not that expensive compared to replacement, why not have a go? They are not too difficult to work on.
