Discuss Need advice on what city and guilds I'd benefit most of? in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi all,

I really need clarification, HELP!

I am a qualified and experienced electrician , however those experience and qualifications have been gained in France.

I now live in uk and would like to work in the trade or related trade such undustrial maintenance since I gained all my electrical experience in automatic door engineering.

I am aware that I need to be up-to-date to the uk regulation and need city and guilds certificates. There are so many though that I am very confused between which ones I should go for.

My primarly choices were:

  1. 17th edition 2382-10
  2. 2391
  3. 2377
  4. What about the part P, is that mandatory or really beneficial??
  5. I have also been told that having a JIB or CSCS card could be a good thing too, which one do you advice me to take????

If you have good knowledge in city and guilds or relevant certifications, please advise me whether those three certificates could be very useful to me or you would consider other city and guilds.

If you could add priority order between them that'd be greta!

Thanks a lot
Jay

firstly i would do 2382, and then do 2391, but for 2391 your knowledge of the 17th edition regs (BS7671) must be very good. In my opinion 2391 is useless without 2382.
2377 is portable appliance testing, and personally i dont think its worth doing, as the PAT market is saturated.

Try these UK NARIC - What we do to see if your qualifications are compatible with the british ones.

Ok thanks Johnboy and cageanimal, I am definitely going to do 2382 and 2391 then.

What about the part P, is it any good?
