Hi

I passed the inspection and testing exam.

I have my Fault Finding and rectification exam coming up, and I am having a problem!!

I cant find any help (books, pass papers, websites) on Fault finding and rectification.

I looked every where but no luck! I have the books OSG, IEE Wiring Reg, and GN3.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

There is a book from the NICEIC which may help you but cant remember what its called. Most faults can be found by testing. Depending on what the fault is, will dictate what tests you need to do to find it. If you go through the tests in the right sequance you will spot the faults on the rig.

P.s search the forum for the name of the book, there was a simular thread on here not so long ago.

first rule of fault finding is to use your eyes. a lot of faults are visibly obvious.

If I remember correctly, there is a wriiten exam on fault finding in the 2330 that asks a simular question."What senses are used to fault find". Some answers were, as tel says, visual, another was touch (on a dead cicuit of course), smell and I think listening. So a visual inspection will point out the obvious faults you can see and testing will find the ones you cant, like an open circuit, poor insulation etc.

and look for pictures without dust on them directly above sockets/switches.
