Hi there,
I registered on this forum because I am looking for an answer to my problem.
I am from Slovakia and I worked as a kitchen fitter and electrician in my country for 6 years. I have got in my country something as a license to work on my own as an electrician.
(rewireing houses, fixing-testing-repairing of electrical apliances...)
I would like to know If I need or how can I get any certificate to start work on my own as an electrician in UK. I received a letter of comparability from UK NARIC which send me an equvivalent of my degree from my country to the UK standard such as NVQ level 3 awards within the UK National Framework.
I'd like to know what am I legally entitled to do if I want to work as an electrician.

Many thanks for answer

A

It depends on whether you plan to work for someone or start your business

If you plan the latter and want to work in dwellings you must conform to building regulations which are mandatory and must either notify the local council before most of the work you do or join a scheme which will enable you to self-certify (there are 5 to choose from just tap "part p" into any search and you find them) if you contact them they will let you know what you need.

Your best option is to work for a company and it would be down to them to decide whether to employ you or not.

Good luck
