Another thread on the forum got me thinking (no small task)

I have, especially on old or DIY installs come across neons in switches wired between line or switched line and cpc.

How big a sin is this ie what code on an EICR.

I am aware that too many may well cause an RCD to trip.

I am also aware that we cannot distribute a PEN conductor around a property, but can legitimately use the cpc eg for filtering purposes at least at the appliance end, so what gives?

Well I don't have any of my old regs book here Jase but I'm pretty sure that reg 416.1 as been in it since at least the 16th and that is

LIVE parts shall be completely covered with insulation which can only be removed by destruction

As the neutral was only identified as LIVE in the 17th I can't remember what previous incantation of this reg said. Me I would code it a 2 I think
