I purchased a new cordless Black & Decker hedge cutter a while back and the battery charger kept tripping the Rcd, I suspected an incorrectly wired plug, my suspicions were confirmed, reversed neutral & earth connection. As mentioned, you need to tell us exactly what is tripping (add photo, if needed). For example, the new socket could actually be on a 6A lighting circuit - not common, but I saw one only last week. Or the new socket could be incorrectly wired (N & E swapped, for example), do other appliances e.g. a kettle work OK in the new socket?
