hi wayne not sure how long you have been invloved within the trade, but as an electrician with 20yrs experience, your comment on the 17th made me laugh. The general feedback that i have heard, is that the 17th is a step backwards, particulary the adding of numourous spurs to ring-mains.

now i am laughing,

or at least curious,:rolleyes::rolleyes:

what exactly has changed with ring mains???

ok, there is now a new appendix (right at the back) which shows the standard circuit configuration for a ring main, and one for radials.

Way i see it, it just amplifies what was already in the OSG:-

32A MCB, 2.5/1.5 tw&E, unlimited sockets in 100m2

as many spurs allowed as socket outlets

so what has changed:cool::confused:

only thing i can see for rings is the requirements for RCD protecting socket outlets

I have Appendix 15, 17th Regs in front of me, it now allows, any number of "spurs" to bo connected to 1 socket, provided the additional spurs are protected. In the 16th only 1 spur per socket was allowed. I see the resson this has been included, but fear it will cause problems in the future, ie. no account of loading will be made. Happy to hear your views.
