Hi fellow tradesmen

I'm an electrician time served 10 +years. Done majority of electrical work. I now work at a container port in the south. I want to do a bit of pastime work on my days off. I have no previous jobs to show and If i did I couldn't test as this is for the local authority to do. How do the governing bodies expect you to join if you can't sign anything off . Please can someone explain. Cheers

Theoretically you would have to inform building control in advance and pay for your first job.
Technically you have about 30 days to self notify a job once you are in a competent persons scheme, therefore if you do a job, then have your assessment, pass and are registered on the scheme within 30 days, then you can self notify the work.
Practically the schemes are aware of this catch 22 and may ignore a slight overrrun of time.
Apply to join, get an assessment date, then complete a model job in time for the assessment.

I'm in the middle off a new extension do scheme body need to see it completed or can I just show one circuit that is completed and tested?

Some will allow WIP progress jobs, and others only completed jobs ....

call them and ask BUT they won't be with you for sometime...... but they will take your money quickly!
