new to this i need help asap

Hi everyone i am David i need some help please ASAP i have replace a socket put everything keeps tripping has anyone got any ideas please

Sounds like you may have terminated the wires incorrectly, or may have damaged a wire when screwing the socket back in place.

I don't have a picture it just a standard

You need to take the socket front off and check that the wires are terminated correctly.
Check that the earth wires have sleeving and are not coming into contact with the live terminals and also check that the socket screws have not damaged any of the wires.

Try what @spinlondon suggests above.
Not much point in guessing what could be wrong. Lets work through this methodically.
Also take some pics while you have the socket off.

The old socket had a metal backbox with a normal front it

If you are still stuck with the problem David, bite the bullet and get a Sparky in to do it for you, cables may need shortening.

unplug all electrical equipment from every socket and try switching on. Is it one RCD covering all circuits or individual RCBO or MCB ?

is it old wiring - is there any chance that in working with the cables they have been damaged and the incoming live is touching the backbox? is the backbox earthed?

Yes the backbox is earth and it is old wiring and I have made sure that I haven't damaged them

If you let the socket hang forward of the box, i.e. not pressing it in and screwing on the double socket, does it still trip?
