hi all
about to make prototype of s w a cable stripper that cuts strands as well as outer insulation at the same time . would you use it? price not set but approx £80 . does anyone know if s w a used abroad, trying to estimate market size. welcome your replies.

personally for me its a steep price and my views on specialist tools have been expressed before
to strip swa i need a hacksaw and a knife which i can use for other things how much quicker would your tool be ?
im thinking about a blade runner for the neatness and speed

One exisits , as danzor points out. About 20 quid I think. Too much for a tight Yorkshireman like me. Plus, it will only do up to a certain size, no good if you do a lot of big stuff, but could be usefull if you have a lot of small cables to gland into a panel I suppose. In the meantime a hacksaw and Stanly Baxter will do !.

it cuts outer insulation and metal strands (two simultaneous cuts) to pre determined depth circumferentially.then it cuts outer insulation axially the length of the cable to be stripped.
works on any size of cable ,its accurate (strands cut uniformly),you cant cut yourself ,you can use it in confined spaces,no cable vibration and a lot less bother than a "hover"
makes the bladerunner look like a spud peeler,dont know why anyone would buy that.
and finally you can use it on the inner insulation (2nd layer) which i find to be the real pig of the process. how many of you use cable stripper on singles etc "neccesity is the mother of invention"

hmm interesting idea have you thought about using it for more than SWA? In my line of work there are lots of cables that need cutting and alot have to use a special tool but you need one for each cable and one sometimes for each PLUG most of th cables are coaxial (like a single core SWA) in various diams and some are coaxial mulitcores in a common outer jacket have a look here for the type of tools as they are not cheap upto £150 each

Well done, when you get bigger you can move onto black and grey tails and then proper S W A cables.If we were all like you we would still be sat in a cave rubbing sticks together! Only joking

stripping tool is a stripping tool and i can see some similarities between the cables. SIze is different but the rest not to far apart.

how sweet of you to be so concerned for "DARIUS" RUMRUNNER.
The reason for my sarcasmn was, asked for input on SWA cable and got someone telling me they can almost perform brain surgery with there sidecutters!
YELLOW AND GREEN to me is EARTH cable!
Coax does have similarities with SWA cable in its construction/layers.
Its not a toy its a tool .
I might have wrongly thought that a proffesional electricians forum would be a good place to get feedback on such a tool.
Really not p****d off just a bit bemused!
