Afternoon all,

im new to the forum and I'm looking for some advice if possible. I'm not currently in the trade but am looking to retrain. I'm 30 and currently employed full time and can only do part time training having a family to support, can anyone give me any guidance on courses? I've looked at a couple of training centres I.e. OLCI and looked at college courses. It would appear that the olci route is very expensive but quicker, do these courses offer the same level of qualifications? It's something I've wanted to do for sometime now but I don't want to throw my money away?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

chris

Not sure who the providers are but by you saying the dreaded words 'very expensive but quicker' i can imagine you're on about the 5week schemes(scams).

You wont be thought very highly of in the trade and you'll struggle to find someone who will employ you - there are a few people that suceed in getting an employer but only a few.

They are a complete waste of money....Ask yourself this, an apprentership takes 4/5years...how can you become an electrician in 5weeks? Everyone would be doing it that way if it was that simple. These courses promise the world, take your 5k and leave you out to dry.

Get in touch with your local college and try get yourself enrolled onto an adult learner course or adult apprentership and undertake the C&G2357 qualification. This is the route into the trade that will guarantee you a prosperous future.

Welcome to the forum & good luck!

Thanks for the honest advice. I did think it was too good to be true so wanted to check it out with the people that know. Cheers again.

Hi Booyeo,

Alana here from OLCI Construction Training.

I would like to give you some information on our courses. To put your mind at rest, it is not a fast-track 5 week course. I would be more than happy to discuss this further with you, please call me on 0800 316 8100. Alternatively you can email me on [email protected] with a phone number and suitable time to call you back.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Alana Fox
