Hi Guys

Need some advice regarding site work.
I have just been asked to provide an estimate for a contract for all electrical work on a new development of 8 houses.
Being an NIC Approved contractor will I also need an ECS card or is my NIC sufficient? I also have 2 blokes working for me who are fully qualified but do not have ECS cards. Will they come under my banner?

I know it works a lot more formally on site with Health & safety etc and don't want to go in completely unprepared.

any advice about this venture all round is appreciated

thanks

most sites you will all need ecs/jib cards.

I know the Barratts sites i work on you have to have a ecs card or you simply cant get on site.

Im not sure what being NIC has to do with your and your employees H&S knowledge unless the NIC are inspecting this on your annual aswel.

Its not even just sparkies that need a card.... you must have a card that represents your trade or the work your carrying out on site!!!

most sites dont care to be honest as long as you have one, depends how strict each site is.

Was working down at the national grid office's and the main contractor there wasnt bothered as long as you had one

Get you team booked in for a test, they also do a premium service but it costs more, but as long as you can read english Im sure you will pass.

okay guys great thanks for the advice. Will be booking my lads in for it this morning.
I'm new to the contracting world on this scale. Anyone know how much should I be charging per hour for an installer? Don't want to be too keen on the rates but also need to be making something! This job is within the M25 and the site manager said he expects London rates

Not in public forum mate, discuss prices in the arms or via pm

You can get on site with the basic CSCS "operative" card, basically a labours card but this is changing in the future. You will have to have a trade specific card i.e an ECS card, for us sparks.
