Eyup.

I need to get on the approved contractors scheme with the NICEIC, I’ve got all the right qualifications, however the thing that’s bothering me is the qualified supervisor role - they seem to want me to have 2 years trading, which I don’t have. Is this right? I spoke to them yesterday and they didn’t mention this.....

I have a suspicion some of the requirements in print can be overlooked a little when it comes to ensuring they get their hands on your money! Call them again to check, perhaps.

Cheers to both of you. Lee, don’t suppose you know if he was a qualified supivisor in his last role or owt do you?

Sounds like what I’ve read isn’t worth the the virtual paper it’s written on....

ignore what they say in the printed leaflets, thats to satisfy legislation in real terms as long as you have the right certificates (although im led to believe thats flexible on the ac scheme as it is on the di scheme) and tell them you have 2 years experience of electrical installation... then you are in as long as the cheque doesnt bounce.
Worse case is they will get you to sit there online pick an answer test and let you still join.
Given the damn right shoddy quality of some of the work i see out there done by approved contractors with NICEIC i dont think they are too fussed.
I havent bothered with the ac scheme as my work is largely domestic so stuck with DI. but will be considering it possibly end of year if some potential work comes to fruition.

And from recent experience of a cowboy NICEIC installer, all they want is the badge and the ability to do online notifications ..... certificates for clients are not provided.

Something needs to change ....

I suppose what used to be something worthwhile, like an Approved Contractor/Electrician has reached the depths of despair where, money is the King, and experience, qualifications etc mean nothing more than cash in the cophers to these CPSchemes, you are correct Murdoch, something NEEDS to change, but as long as cash is the king then sadly nothing will.
Wish I was a Politician, or someone with influence.

The NICEIC get a lot of bad comments from a lot of guys on here and to be fair some of it is justified, but the Approved contractor scheme was always more professional than the DI scheme. If you can get written references they will consider you with less than 2 years experience, but they will still need to see 3 Jobs with test certificates and will want to see them, you will be okay though, they will want to help you achieve the minimum standards required by BS7671, I have to say IME they are much better than the other schemes the guys here rave about lol, I wouldn't give stroma the steam off my ----.
