Hi Guys,

I have my Assessment for full NIC registration 21st December (No Pressure) I have seen some older threads regarding this but I would like to know what the current line is regarding BS5266 and 5839 publications required. I rarely get involved directly with fitting fire alarms but do fit smoke detectors to domestic properties, also I do fit emergency lighting which I have been on the ECA course for and have the NIC guidance book etc. So the question is will I need the actual BSI Publications or not? would hate to pay out all that money and they don't need to see them.

NICEIC publish thier own stuff. Buy some of the books on these subjects. The assessor will love that. Remember with the NICEIC, it is not what you know, it is what will you pay.

thanks for reply, I was thinking along the same lines and will order their publications, cant hurt can it. I suppose I am struggling with the fact their requirement is quite clear that I should have the standards and I suppose I should really but its a lot of money even when you become a BSI Member and I just know they wont ask for them if I had them.

If it's only domestic smokes then you will only need BS 5839-6.

The other parts only apply to non-domestic fire detection.

We have to produce both bs publications every year for our approved contractor assessment.
