been to look at a night store today it wont turn off at all .looked at input stat and it is constantly in closed position so it looks to be the stat but in the rer in a item looks like i resister about 30mm long looks to be across live and neutral question is what is it and what purpose does it sorve
dont do repairs much on n/stores but am i right that supply goes to input stat through to thermal cutout and down to elements
night store is dimplex

The resistor is just a heat accelerator for the bi-metal output flap control, nothing to do with the input. The stats can normally be taken out, forced open with a screwdriver and cleaned up with a bit of emery cloth, has always worked for me. Did my first 10 years on storage heating

stat it's self hasnt welded infact moves freely just does'nt shut off
i take it that the current flowing through contacts heats the bimetal strip that then shut off elements and the input setting is just a bit of resistance to keep contacts closed longer for higher charge
have anyone ever come across this before

The bi-metal strip is there only to open/close the metal flap at the top of the heater, nothing to do with the elements at all.

You won't get the stat to open without an enormous amount of heat.

Did the thermal cut-out in front of the stat (disc type, manual reset) trip? If not I'd suggest there's nothing wrong with the stat.
