Hi

I have just been asked to a job where the customers are moving house and the survey has picked up that they have had a board change. They are now being asked for the EIC from the solicitors, they have also told me that they had some extra lights put in, when they asked for the cert off the 'electrician' he 'disappeared'. Obviously I can't sign off the work being a member of ELECSA but I was wondering what the best way forward was for them, are there any competent persons schemes out there that can sign off other peoples work?

Thanks..

True, but presumably it's the Completion Certificate from Building Control which the solicitor actually wants but has been unnecessarily specific about how it could be attained.

Disclaimer: As I don't live in either England or Wales I could be typing complete and utter nonsense.

No doubt it's the prospective purchasers solicitors who have asked for the EIC. It's a fair enough question. As they don't have one, they should seek the advice of their own solicitor, who may advise them to offer to take out an indemnity insurance policy. You can only offer an EICR.

The solicitor will be acting for the new owner. As it is not possible to produce an EIC a EICR will need to be carried out this will give the new owners confidence in the installation and if all is OK the solicitor will allow the sle to proceed. If any faults are found this will be used as a bargaining tool to reduce the price to allow the corrective works to be carried out.
