Just back from sorting a call out, just can't believe I'm Sparky no 3 !!!
Background story.
Office reception area with newly fitted wrought iron fancy pants'y very expensive looking staircase.
Several staff have complained about receiving a shock from the staircase over the last two weeks.
2 separate electrical contractors had attended and both have said it was down to a build up of body static, that's being discharged when staff make contact with the steel handrail.
This time it was the security guy, and he was having none of it (fair play to him)
Long story short,
There a vending machine directly beneath the staircase, following vertically from the spur supplying and there's a nice shiny raw bolt securing the stairwell frame to the wall.
You guessed it !! they drilled though the live.
Some years ago, I remember a very similar situation, and its an easy sort once identified, although it shows what a lack of bonding or general common sense can lead too.
My biggest problem is how 2 guys from separate companies dismiss this as static discharge.
Ok I'm tired I admit it, but am I the only one who despairs when coming across ****e like this.
Lord help us !!
