Problem with meter / distribution board. All electric has gone off. Electronic Prepayment Meter. Power going into meter. When distribution board is OFF then there is power from the meter to the board. The moment a load is applied there is no power from the meter to the distribution board. I have switch each circuit off in turn, and the moment any 1 circuit is on then no power flow from Meter to Dist board. Am I right in thinking this is the meter?
Edit

Have called DNO twice, and on both times told (over the telephone) that it is not a meter fault. How can the power flow from the meter to the fuseboard stop whenever there is a load applied - unless it is a fault with the meter. Is there anything else I should check for?

how are you testing for the presence of power?

throw that away and you will have to get a proper voltage tester, but to be honest I would call a local sparks out , he will be able to tell you in a few monents what the problem is

if you are competent to do it, multimeter across L/N on incoming side of main switch. repeat for L/E both with and without load. if you lose either L or N then it's deffo a DNO problem. what's your location.? maybe one of us is close to you.

It could be a connection breaking down on the supply either external to the property or a tail connection. It is possible to have a bad connection in the meter as it is a pre pay and they have some sort of contact that makes and breaks depending wether the meter is in credit or debit. Are you sure there is credit on the meter??? A loop test each side of the meter will soon sort it out. Multimeter will pick up any voltage where as a loop tester will load the circuit and pinpoint the fault.
As the other say get the DNO out. Dont tell them it is the meter just say you are off supply, they will be out within 4 hours.

Multimeter on. Distribution board off. L/N 111v L/E=111v When any load is applied voltage drops to 0.

Putting the multimeter on the meter tails, 238v on the input tails, and 111v out, again drops to when any load applied. DNO insist that it is a house wiring fault and they are not responsible as the meter is illuminated at displays 88888888 when the blue button is pressed.

its a dno fault quite possibly breakdown of service fuse seen it before although it could be a line problem, check tails at your end if ok call dno with a off supply that will get the guys round who will fix it.

If its a prepay meter with a plastic key make sure that the credit is on the meter correctly.

Had a simular one where it was showing £15 in credit which had just been put on but no power took the key out and reinserted it pressing various buttons and it powered up straight away.

neon tester ??????????????????????? good grief is this a joke.
First of all test with a multimeter if it is a prepaid meter dont use a standard mains tester unless you are testing L-N only if you test L-E with one of these the meter cuts out.

Thanks. Have called DNO (Central Networks) who then claim as the meter is illuminated (hence there is power to the meter) it is not their responsibilty and I need to call the electric provider (british gas) who are responsible for the meter (and who only answer the phone 8am-8pm)

so... candles till tomorrow then

DNO will not respond if the meter is lit. It does sound like it could be a meter problem. (does the incoming voltage drop off when a load is applied) You need to call the people who supply your electricity ie who you pay your bill to (prepay) They are responsible for the meter. It may still be E. on but a different department. You can find out who your electricity supplier is by contacting your local electricity distribution company . You should ask for their Meter Point Administration Service (MPAS).

The old days were better one electricity company to deal with. Now we have the DNO for the supply and cut off then the suppliers meter operator for the meter.

Let us know the outcome
