Hi folks, im after some advice/opinions more than anything.

I’m still an apprentice (until next March), although I have just finished my third year in college, all I’ve got left is my NVQ portfolio and my AM2, I will then be eligible to apply for my gold card.

Given the above, is there ANY way I can LEGALLY do work for myself on evenings and weekends? I want to advertise but worry there could be nasty comebacks if I don’t wait until I am fully qualified.

Also I will add, without blowing my own trumpet competence and ability aren’t an issue. Also I’ve got a friend on board who is able to certify any work I do.

Thanks in advance folks.

unless things have changed, you need to do your NVQ 3 and AM2, 2391 and then a year working as an electrician and then you can get a gold card.

Are you doing your college at Mid Warwicks college in Leamington ?/

Yeah it’s changed now pal. As long as I can prove I’ve passed my NVQ, AM2 and 2391 I can apply for a gold card. It only differs if working for a JIB company, then it is graded ‘core’, ‘approved’ and ‘technical’ dependant on served time.

And no mate that’s where I wanted to but ended up elsewhere.
