I'm trying to change over a 2-way switch in my hallway (that controls an upstairs and downstairs light) and can't for the life of me work out where each cable from the old switch should go in the new one.

There are two cables in common (red top right and yellow bottom left)

Blue to L1
Red to L2
Black to L2 in separate hole (bottom right)

The new toggle switch i've bought has two L(ive?) holes at the top, then an L1 and L2 in at the bottom of both.

Okay the cable which is just red and black into L and L1 of the right side switch, doesn't matter which way around. The left switch for the red, yellow and blue cable is yellow into L, red into L2 and blue into L1. Is it a metal fronted switch the new one.

The Common on the old switch has been renamed L on the new one.
The old switch has one of the switches upside down. So think of it as 2 separate switches
