Good Afternoon,

Any advice on the following gratefully received - I'm wanting to get the light working in my wife's old wooden G-plan wardrobe. It's operated by a switch on the door. The cabling is old two-wire twisted type. I was hoping to just trim the ends and fit a new plug (no earth I realise) but there doesn't seem to be any indicator as to which wire is live/neutral. Is there a basic solution to this, or is it a job for professional? Many thanks if anyone can help.

Ditch the old cable, replace with some 3 core flex.

the original cable is old and its condition can not be presumed to be ok.
it is also only a single layer of insulation, a modern flex will have 2 layers giving much better mechanical protection.
