Looking for some advice on one touch switches to for a 2 way circuit.
Client is very particular and doesn't like it when switches forming 2 way or intermediate circuits enivitably end up in the wrong position. So I'm looking for switches that simply push on and then push off, similar to a retractive switch but remains on after activating....

Retractive switches are what you're after. Quinetic switches are retractive switches that require no wiring from the fitting to the switch position - the transceiver is attached at the ceiling rose/ light fitting) and the switch is self powering, requiring no batteries.

Quinetic switches are available from TLC, I've not seen any 3rd party equivalents from other wholesalers.

I thought a retractive switch had to be pressed and held on to keep the circuit live, and once you remove your finger the circuit is no longer live? Happy to be wrong on that as that makes the install very simple....

What you say is correct, but using the technology suggested, the momentary 'on' from the switch operates the control circuitry, which then turns on/off the light appropriately.
In the case of Quinetic remote switches, the mechanical push 'pings' a piezo electric generator, which creates power for a small rf transmitter that sends a signal to the receiver in the light circuit.

Just looked into the quinetic switching range, absolutely brilliant, that will work perfectly! They also do a scolmore click switch modual which will keep the same look from the rest of the house which is a bonus!

Traditional ones possibly but Quinetic you just press and release.

If you wanted a hardwired alternative, I have used 'Vadsbo' dimmer modules that can be located at any convenient position including a switch backbox and use any number of retractive switches to operate. The installation I did had 8 of them mounted in an adaptable box near the consumer unit and multiple switching pairs run out to the ridiculous number of switches the client requested. Result was happy customer, only criticism being that they don't 'soft start' particularly well with some LEDs but then I haven't really found a dimmer that does.

I was a little dubious about this system but ordered a two way set for my father in laws garage and they are simply magical I also wondered about the no battery but your right just like the lighters they work a dream ! The switches I got were round tho and so don’t look like any light switch you find but I’m sure there will be ones out there that would look right !
