Anyone got any thoughts on '327W BenQ crystalline' panels v 'Sunworld Sunmodule 250W mono black' v 'Solarworld Sunmodule Plus 250W poly'?

Depends on size of roof and look of the finished installation. The Poly panels tend to be more of a light blue colour against the darker colour of the mono cell.
If the roof is large enough go with the Solarworld mono

Thanks. Appearance isn't too important, more reliability and the output in (the currently!) low light conditions.

It's looking like either nine of the BenQ on a south-facing elevation, or a similar number of the others on the south-facing with enough on a west-facing to get back up to 3kW.

To be really cost effective and maximise returns, have a look at something like a JA Solar 285W black framed panel. Sound manufacturer with good provenance.

BenQ are probably some of the best panels out there and definitely the highest efficiency (along with Sunpower, which appear to share the same design). They are more expensive, but if you are short of room may be the way to go.

Nine of the BenQs will give 3 kW, but you'll only get 2.5 kW from nine JA Solar... think you'll have to compare the prices and expected generation and 'do the math' as they say.

Photon Labs have been running a field test at Aachen in Germany of different solar modules, see http://www.solar360.com.au/files/YINGLI YGE Photon Module Yield Test 2012.pdf. Of those tested the Sunpower panels similar to the BenQ scored best at 1144 kWh/kW/year. The worst panel achieved 949 kWh/kW/year and the median was 1079. So you can probably see there is a significant but not huge difference. What will probably make more difference is being able to fit more watts of panel up there (or on the best roof face) by using higher wattage panels such as the BenQs.

Can you tell how the Sunpower / Ben Q panels are made. I have been told that due to the way the cells are made recycling the panel is very hard.

No idea I'm afraid. The two appear to share a design and the specs seem identical so it seems likely they'll perform similarly, but can't be guaranteed. Given that panels from the 70s are still working well, hopefully we shouldn't have to find out soon!
