yes I fit them all the time, But I would always advise a pm to Tazz regarding fire alarms, the guy know;s more about them than anyone I have known to be fair, drop him a pm.

anyone any experience on optical smoke alarms , been told to fit one in a new build along with standard smokes and a heat detector

Depending on the enviroment, will depend on what type of smoke detection should be used. Ionisation smokes are good at detecting smoldering fires like bedding and furniture. Optical are ideal for detection of visable smoke, and reduce false alarms. If you can give us more information on type of system, building etc we can try and advise.

its a BIG house just under 200sq feet

new build , the drawing from architect say heat detector kitchen optical smoke alarm in sitting room which is open plan with kitchen and hall

and around 10-12 smokeys throughout rest of house

How do you get around 10 - 12 on a drawing? surely they are either there or they aint?

Would be an idea to contact the manufacturer of whichever system you are planning to use as I think some are limited to 10 heads max interlinked.

So you are using mains linked detectors, Optical will be the best to used in circulation areas such as landings. If the house has more than 2 floors, then a full fire alarm is required.
Aico can interlink upto 20 firdex can use upto 12 in one link

i usually use brk type ones ground and first floor only
