We have been asked to look after/ maintain a large local solar farm by a national company involved in looking after a few of these farms by installed by the same company around the UK. This will involve occasional out of hours response to to any problems.
Any suggestions of an reasonable out of hours rate?

the rate could be anything you think is fair, tho what your expecting lads to work for could be different,no one wil give up say a week being on call for the off chance of a few hours overtime,so the rate should include any standby money payed to lads who are on call, that amount can differ between companies/trades,if this is a national contract id expect some travel to be involved,a week on call for me pays £585 on top of my wage for being available, then overtime rates on top,so no calls i get £585 extra for not going to the pub for a week with calls that could double/treble,if people want 24 hr cover they have to pay for it,be it customers or companies

How can you really have out of hours call out with solar pv in winter?

after 4.30 its dark so you can not fault find anyway ?

I charge £75.00 for the first half an hour.

I also work for national companies that send me out and I know that they charge £98 plus VAT for the first half hour and then £78 plus VAT for every half hour after that.

I only deal with the emergency situation. I was called out at 21:22 on Friday and was on site for 8 minutes £75.00 :thumbsup

Your out of hrs will only be daylight weekend work, what if you have a dc problem are you familiar with it, are you mcs or just a normal spark

I'm in the wrong job!

i'll be on call for £585 /week. won't need any other work.

55 call outs adds up to quite a lot more dough (£2750 at £50 per call out, andI would guess thats a conservative figure)then on the basis of your figures, yep, I'm in the wrong job!

we dont get £50 per job,we get overtime on top,if it was 2750 extra a week ontop of the standby i might do a bit more of it,average would be around 1000 + standby money so round it to 1600 extra a month + other overtime you can get and your normal wage so its not bad in any way, but no one does more than a week on call so were not all earning over 2k a week every week, you could do if your mad enough, tho most lads earn around 37k but upto 50k if you put the hours in.the hidden cost of offering 24hr call cover :rolleyes2:
