Hi all,

Based in UK (not US although this is showing for some reason).

New here but have a few electrical projects planned.

Firstly, I have 2no outdoor lights served by a single switch (see attached photograph). I am doing the garden (new decking) and intend to add -

  • 4no LED post lights - max 7W, IP54, 200 lumens.
  • 6no deck lights - IP 65, max 50W

To power these, planning to run a 1.5mm 3c SWA cable from the last light on current circuit in black conduit. Total length of cable for the entire circuit from the switch will be around 26metres.

Does the above sound OK?

Thanks for any hints and tips.

Welcome to the forum mate.
Sounds ok.
Out of interest, why are you using SWA in conduit?

Thanks for the response!

Belt and braces as it is external - the conduit will only be near enough ground level (alongside sleepers) - would you recommend a different type?

If you are using SWA then there is no need for conduit.

Just wire you armoured cable to the wiska box and cleat it neatly.
(i personally wouldn’t bother with the pvc conduit)

Thanks Dusty - I was thinking that I would connect into the left side light and then run down the wall so no need for a wiska box.

Are you saying that I could take my connection from the wiska box and have a 'fork' in the circuit (i.e. one spur off for the wall lights and another for the garden lights)?

In a nut shell yes , it’s fine to use the Wiska box.
I certainly wouldn’t be attempting to join an armoured cable to the light fitting.
The wiska box is the perfect place to run your new cable from.
It couldn’t have been made any easier by virtue of the previous sparks fitted a wiska box for the 2 outside lights...
