all delends on how it's wired. if you have a neutral at the switch, then you can go straight from the switch( i'm assuming that the switch is to turn the existing PIR light on and off (isolate) rather than to manually override the PIR)).
 
what kind of light is it led or halogen ?

Thanks for the reply, Yes there is a neutral at the switch, so I am thinking I am ok to do that then
