I need to run an outside armoured cable to a pond pump. I will install all the necessary protection devices. MY question is can the cable be laid loose on the ground between trees or attached to the trees. I dont really want to dig a trench all the way over a 40metre run. Thanks

i can't think of a reg. prohibiting this. if i were to lay it on the ground. i'd cut up some strips of the buried cable tape and wrap round the cable every 2 ft. or so. if it's your own property, you know where it is and can avoid damage

I'd be more inclined to knock some small post in the ground and attach the SWA to them, if your are going to have it at ground level. Just my personal preference.

If the cable is unlikely to be damaged or present a trip hazard for folk then I can't see anything specifically wrong with it.

Some marker/support posts such as @Spoon mentions would be a good idea so you know where it is years later if covered in some soil/leaves/etc.
