Outside lights.Advise needed

Hi all.
New to the site and hoping you can help.
I've been asked to fit some outside lights (x3).
Having trouble getting a supply without chasing cables etc.
Is it possible to use an existing fused spur for the supply?
I'm thinking fused spur to new switch then out to lights!
Do I need an rcd or can i replace the fused spur with an rcd?
I wanted advise before I say if i can do the work.

Not a spark. Handyman with general skills. Ok changing fittings etc. just wanted advise / legality!

Hi - If the existing power circuit doesn't have an RCD then one will be needed covering at least the proposed extension. The safety issue is that you won't be able to confirm the earth loop impedance and RCD switching times etc without test instruments.

Welcome to the forum mate.
I presume you will be handing out a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate at the end of the job.... This is a requirement.

Thanks Spoon. This pretty much answers my questions! It’s for a friend so didn’t want to go down the route of helping them out then being bitten on the arse later down the line.

until next month, RCD would only be required to comply with 522.6.202 (BYB) . after jan.1st, the luminaries reg. applies. ( don'tknow the reg.no. in 18th. ain'tgot a copy).

If you have an electrical friend who is willing to do the cert for you, then that is another way. Just have words with them before doing it. He/she will most brob want to see the cables runs.

Oops, quite right.
I was thinking of 411.3.3 - but it's not an outlet
