Hi everyone I am new to this, just started training as an electrician (at 43 yrs old) hoping to do an install of light and power to my shed (I know this needs part P) but having never used conduit before would be grateful for some advice how to start the run from the external wall of the house, is it a simple case of butting the conduit up to the wall and using silicone to seal it, or do you drill a larger diameter hole into the external wall for the conduit to fit into and then seal ? Many thanks Mike

If you are running the conduit straight into the wall drill a suitably sized hole an inch or two depth to allow the conduit to just enter the wall,it's a more effective seal both to the structure and the end of the conduit and also secures the conduit at the point of contact with the wall.
If the conduit is fixed to the wall it is usual to stop it with a terminal box and drill out the back of that.

Go with wirepuller, if you just butt it up to the wall and seal it with silicon, sooner or later the silicon will degrade, and it will let our wonderful elements in. It will degrade sooner if it is in direct sunlight in the summer, assuming we get some.

Cheers…………Howard

thanks guys for your assistants , looks like I will be buying some big drill bits !

So now we've covered off the conduit bit,
is this a new circuit?
protection?
length?
anticipated load?
Isolation?

Drill your hole big enough to run the conduit right through. If I'm running a cable through a wall, I generally put a bit of PVC conduit through anyway, especially if it's a cavity wall.

You may also want to think about how you are going to physical protect your cable installation thro' the wall from outside to inside. As HandySparks says above, extending your conduit thro' is one method!
