So im hearing all different versions from people.
some people are saying that you need to pass a part p exam and become a part p electrician.

Ive also heard that thers no such thing that its only a paragraph in the building regs and that anyone can pay a building control for a higher fee or if your registerd to a competant persons scheme then that will cover it .?

hum ... Part P

Read the document - its free.

Then to be able to comply with the regs and self certify you will need to become a member of a CPS...... fees to local BCO's are a rip off.

Stroma is the cheapest at £288 per year...

and you certainlydon't want to be spending money on a so called part p qualification. it's a course designed purely to extract your wallet contents.

If you are a plumber, or kitchen fitter, you can do the Part P qualification, then apparently you can retire people's houses.
If you're a qualified electrician, you don't need to take the Part P course.
Whichever you are, you'll have to join a Part P scheme, or get the home owner to notify the Council before you start the work.
In England, the only things that need to be notified, are new Consumer Units, new circuits and work within any of the zones in a special location.

To join a part p scheme, you need 17th edition, a multi function tester and calibration certificate, some books and a cheap insurance policy, then you send the scheme (elecsa/niceic) a cheque, they will get you to complete a small online 'test' to assess your knowledge but its okay you can use your books and ask people the answers if needed. then a nice bloke pops round to meet you, eat your biscuits and taste your cups of tea. then he will have a look at something you have done and get you to demonstrate your shiny new all singing and dancing multitester. once the cheque clears they admit you to the club. simples really.
