So the plug is not the part of the appliance???
Is your leg part of the body ???
Depends how you look at it, the appliance is tested for Class II requirements but the plug falls under different standards and is not a Class II part whether the appliance it connects is Class II or not.

Lets suppose your Class11 appliance had a moulded plug with a plastic earth pin, and unfortunately someone stood on the plug and the earth pin snapped off. It's going to be tricky plugging it in to some sockets. Do you throw the appliance away, or put on a new standard plug with an earth pin?
The latter, methinks.

The amount of broken off plastic earth pins I have had to tease out of a socket.

this thread seems to be getting lost here.

A class 2 appliance is double insulated, therefore not requiring an earth.
it is still class 2 if there is an unused earth pin in the plug.
it is still class 2 if there is an earth in the cord set that is not used.

it only becomes class 1 when there is a metal surface that could become live under fault conditions therefore requiring an earth.

this is so simple I am amazed it has had over 30 posts.

some class 2 items have exposed metal components that are not earthed.

But I am thinking only about The class II appliance.
Your over thinking this, you have had plenty of replies fella, I assume you have had your answer, just not an issue

What is a "mobile appliance"?
The common types of equipment within the 4th Ed. CoP are, "portable", "movable", "hand held", "stationary" and "fixed"
And what is your appliance?
a truss judging by some of the posts.
