Somebody has told me that the PAT regulations for leakage current are
relaxed for washing machines, tumble driers etc? Please is this correct?

There not relaxed as far as I know but your are permitted more earth leakage than general portable appliances

The earth leakage limit is now 5ma for all class 1 and class 2fe appliances.
If you are doing PAT for a living surely you have the latest code of practice, which contains some significant changes. ?
