Ive been working in my company for about 7 years now and i am getting payed £7 per hour. I would now class myself as an electrician. and people i know and family members are having arguments with me saying i should be getting paid alot more. what do you think my rate should be. I am fully quilified with 16th edition and i of 29 years old

JIB rates are around £12 an hour for 'qualified' sparks so I think your boss is laughing at you. I started on £9 an hour as a mate 4 years ago!

i got me self leathered because i was so unhappy with my ten pound an hour now i have a great boss...me

best black eye that ever happened to me

That is ridiculous. I earn more than that and I'm a labourer and you've been at the same firm for 7yrs?!?

Ask about, throw some cv's out, have a ring round. Hopefully you'll get an interview, whatever. Have a word, see what they're offering and you'll see that your being taken for a ride.

Please don't take this personally, it isn't but you really should be on more.

A lot more.

i used to be on £7.30 p/h and working a 60h week as a mate! then i got made redundant and now im only on £6.50 p/h working for a local firm doing a 40h week! im down on average about £115p/w!!!

starting to feel the pinch now!

im not fully qualified yet, i only have a few month after the summer holidays to do till im qualified. do you think £6.50 is enough for an improver?

hard to say as the experience your getting is probably worth a fair bit

but if you were to ask is your boss taking the p*@s then i would say this..

your a few months from being qualified so i would hope you have more electrical knowledge than a labourer and the rates for them are usually about 8 to 9 and a half quid

PS:i have worked with some labourers that have excellent electrical knowledge and are worth more so no offence meant if your here:p

If you have finished your NVQ lvl 3 and hence dont need a job to finish course then you could consider telling them to pay up or say goodbye. Top tip is to already have somewhere to go to, also if the word gets out your looking for a new job then they might bump the money just to keep you. Either way I wouldn't get out of bed for less than £9 as an improver

i guess i'm qualified, i haven't got my nvq level 3, but got my c and g 2330, and my 17th regs, and i only get £7 per hour. every1 says i'm gettin mugged off aswell, which i think i am, but still only 19 tho!

i am on JIB rates and im on 12.77 as i get a van and diesel provided, you should be on that or there about, hes just taking the **** mate, a friend of mine is just qualifying just got his AM2 to do and he phone me saying his boss said he wouldnt be putting him on 12.77 as he is not a proper electrictian as he had only just qualified, my mate smiled and accepted it as he doesnt want to rock the boat so close to finalising his apprentiship but he is doing exactly what i said, 'Getting him self the **** out of there' haha,

Dont work for £6.50. that is far less than they pay to a cleaner in most parts of London etc.
stick your neck out and demand more.

In the US, depending on your exact location, a well-qualified electrician is generally making in the 20-30 dollar per hour range. Some less, some more, depending on if you fell into a particular niche of the trade. I'm not sure what that works out to in pounds.

£7 per hour is incredibly low, how on earth do you live on that?
No offence to you my friend, but McDonalds pay the same rate to their burger flippers.

I have just returned to the game after a 20 year abscence and am working with one other guy (the boss) in order to prepare for getting myself up to speed with the current regs, and I'm on £20 an hour (before taxes, etc).

I'd start hunting around for another job, because your boss is taking the pi$$.

(ment for reply too bigstew's post, i havent quite the hang of this yet)

suppose it depends on ur age anything over minimum is a bonus if your not yet qualifyed like me, im getting payed the legal minimum for 23yr old its a pointless amount. i'd like to ask for more but i imagine its the wrong time with people getting layed off and ive just today finnished my AM2 awaiting results. does anyone know what rate i should expect when i get the certificate through the door and if i would need the 17th edition in a hurry to claim it?

cheers
(times are hard when your just waiting for decent rates lol)
