This post went on for quite a while, with a lot of confusion regarding periodics and the use of rcd's on sockets. Many of us contributed to the thread but there were a number of opinions regarding codings ect.
Well I decided to phone niceic technical and a mate of mine did the same with the eca. Surprise of surprises they gave the same answer:)

So here we go,
If we are completing a periodic, to an installation that has been wired to an earlier version of BS7671 on a domestic install and the sockets are not rcd protected thats a code 4.

The acception to this is sockets that can be reasonably expected to supply equipment outdoors thats a code 2.

Both governing bodies have said the same when we enquired, so thats what I am going with.

I was also told not to confuse the regs in relation to a new install as opposed to existing (Thats what a code 4 is there for on older installs.

Hope this info proves usefull and remember, I am not quoting personal opinion here its from the horses mouth.
Any doubts ring them and put your mind at rest.;)
