Interested to know if others take this route?.

If a customer wants a CU Change and have not got any previous electrical records do you PIR first to check the installation and also pick up any remedial.

Then complete the CU Change.

Then supply an EIC.

Comments Appreciated :)

thats what i would do, my mate got stung a few years back, got a phone call of a woman he never met went round changed her consumer unit witout testing it first, when he came round to testing the new one sooooo many faults it was untrue.

the woman says well it was allright before!

haha he has never done it again

For my own peace of mind, i tend to IR test circuits first and check for borrowed neutrals.

Once thats proved ok, then on with the cu change.

I do all the dead testing plus zs to make sure the maximum disconnection times for rcds will be easily met. Of course charge the customer for this 1st test and explain why. It might knock a few customers back from using your services, but it prevents you from potential headaches afterwards.

Hi mate
I would generally test before swapping the board and not charge them for the EIC
After fitting £70 pir, charge for remedials £250 board and just issue the EIC

Hope this helps

you should always aim to keep cost down for the customer so when you do an estimate check what wiring there is estimate the age look for visual alterations then you should be able to estimate what problems can occur put all this in writing in your estimate and state any fault finding rectification will be carried out on a time and materials basis after all if there are faults they need rectifying so do the change then test then do another estimate for cost of repairs as faults are allways found when testing espicaially with all the new regs .
